Research Focus

There are three types of cells that constitute the brain cancer tumor: endothelial cells, cancer stem cells, and bulk tumor cells. Cancer stem cells, which behave similarly to ordinary stem cells, have been suggested to maintain the tumor by differentiating into bulk tumor cells. Thus, analyzing the behavior of cancer stem cells is critical in effective cancer treatment and relapse prevention. My research uses immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry to investigate the relationship between the ratio of the three cell types in the tumor microenvironment and to examine the tumor microenvironment's effects on cancer stem cell differentiation.
