Research Focus

The broad goal of my research is to improve the understanding of bone metastases. It is known that many of the most common cancers have a propensity to colonize in trabecular bone and form secondary tumors. A primary focus of my work is to examine the physiological changes that various tumor cell lines produce in the bone microenvironment. By using principles of materials science and advanced nanofabrication techniques, it may be possible to precisely tailor and vary the structural and biomechanical properties of biomimetic three-dimensional tissue engineered bone constructs for use as model systems. Through these model systems, the behavior of tumor cells in the bone microenvironment may be explained.

In May 2007, I received a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. I am now pursuing a PhD in Cornell's Department of Biomedical Engineering.
